Driving Directions To Airlie Beach

In order to get to the holiday desintation of Airlie Beach you can take a leisurely drive along the Queensland coast. Airlie Beach is located approximately 1,100 kms north of Brisbane and the main driving route is the Bruce Highway, which more ar less follows the coastline. To drive from Brisbane to Airlie Beach it will take you about 14-15 hours, which includes regular breaks along the way.

There are lots of things and places to see along drive, particularly around Hervey Bay, Gladstone, Rockhampton and Mackay. Therefore, you may wish to make the drive a 2 day affair and have a stop-over at a convenient halfway point like Rockhampton or Gladstone and see some of the interesting things that this part of the world has to offer.

After travelling all the way along the Bruce Highway to Proserpine you will need to turn right onto Shute Harbour Road about 1.5 kilometres after the township of Proserpine. The turnoff is well sign-posted and is located just on the northern side of the Proserpine River. Once you are on Shute Harbour Road you need to drive about 22 kilometres through Cannonvale to get to Airlie Beach.

Flying To Airlie Beach

The best way to get to Airlie Beach and have enough time to enjoy all of the things that this magical region has to offer is to fly. There are 2 airports that you can fly into for Airlie Beach, either the Proserpine Airport on the mainland or the Hamilton Island Airport in the Whitsunday Islands.

The main advantage of flying into the Proserpine Airport is that you can easily catch the bus or hire a car in order to get to Airlie Beach. Whilst if you fly into the Hamilton Island Airport you will need to get a ferry with Cruise Whitsundays from the island across to Shute Harbour on the mainland and then a bus the 10 kilometres into Airlie Beach.

    - Fly direct to Proserpine from Brisbane and direct to Hamilton Island from Cairns.

Virgin Blue
    - Fly direct to Proserpine from Brisbane and direct to Hamilton Island from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

Jetstar
    - Fly direct to Proserpine from Brisbane and direct to Hamilton Island from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

For flights to Hamilton Island and Proserpine from cities other than the ones stated about you will need to get a connecting flight through one of the above mentioned cities.
